Crazy how someone could escalate something so petty into a death sentence. Poor dude was 22 and was just the wrong place and wrong time when some asshat former employee decided to go nuts 🙁
Definitely a South Dakotan/Scandinavian final meal.
I was actually a maintenance worker at that prison and my specialty was electronics. It was my and a coworker’s job to ensure all electronics worked (such as the audio equipment was working to record last words) . Thank god I was the stand by guy so I only had to check the stuff not actually be there when it happened. I became disabled in 2017 thank god I never had to sit thru an execution.

I don’t know if you take suggestions or not, but it’d be so interesting to try the “last meal” of Bart Whitaker, who was sentenced to death after hiring an assassin to kill his family and injure him the night they came home from a fancy dinner celebrating Bart graduating college. He did it to keep his family from finding out he dropped out of college years ago and so he could claim the inheritance. And while he was tried, sentenced, and consumed his last meal, at the eleventh hour, his father—who survived the assassination attempt—helped convince the governor of Texas to commute his sentence down to life without parole.
So while it wasn’t his last meal he ate, it would still be interesting to try what WOULD HAVE been his last meal.

What a bizarre selection of food
Here’s more additional information on Charles:
– Charles was the fourth child in his family
– He dropped out of high school in his sophomore year, joined the army for three years & later earned a GED. He attended the University of South Dakota but was expelled & arrested for stealing & sentenced to three years for third-degree burglary. He was out on parole when he robbed a store & was jailed for 10 years. He was released in 1987
– the doughnut shop, called the Dig ‘Em Donut, hired him as a night baker but the owner didn’t know he was a felon according to the co-owner. He was not liked when he was employed there
– Charles only managed to steal $3K I’m the shop & fled. He even attended the victim funeral with a roommate. He fled a few days later. He was caught in Seattle & deported back to South Dakota
